Nagachika Hideyoshi, huh? [ If that is your real name! ] That's quite a mouthful. I'm Oikawa Tooru, nice to meet you too. [ That's a lie, he's still mad. He'll get over it. ]
So, did that friend of yours ever figure out how to keep those fairies at bay?
Well, that's good to hear. [ Although looking back on his encounter with the fairies, he wouldn't exactly use the term "playful"... ] Those fairies are a pretty interesting bunch. I wonder what exactly that goo they produce is.
[Oikawa is a never ending source of amusement... a bright spot in a trying time... a diamond in the rough... actual perfect bullying material 10/10 would troll again.]
i'm just saying, your talents lie elsewhere! [or do they.] like in being "kawaii." am i wrong?
[ Oikawa is this close to just shutting down the communication. But he's not gonna lie, there isn't much to do in this town without the sun around, and this is the most entertainment he's had in a while. ]
I... really wouldn't call that a talent. Although I am good at other things, so I guess you're not completely wrong.
[ At least this guy knows what volleyball is. A few people that he's talked to had never even heard of the sport! What a shame! ]
Oh, it's quite fun! And challenging, but I appreciate a good challenge. There's the physical element, of course, but I enjoy the strategic part of it myself.
Being captain has it's difficulties, but I worked hard to get to where I am. It makes you pretty popular with girls too, so I can't complain!
Yeah, there's definitely that aspect of the game. Setting up your team for the best attack and bringing out the strengths of your players is a great way to set up the offensive.
You also have the other team to worry about. Finding holes in the opponent's defense, figuring out which player is the worst at receives, noticing which blockers left space open for a spike, and psyching the other team out; there are a lot of things to keep in mind. And I haven't even scratched the surface of defensive plays yet!
[ Oikawa could probably go on and on about this if Hide wants to know more. What a nerd. ]
[it's one of the first things Oikawa has done to impress Hideyoshi, to be fair; the blond had a healthy respect for the impassioned, whether or not the subject was something as light-seeming as volleyball.]
[with sincerity,] with how much down time we've got here, i bet you could start a team here.
[ At least he can one-up Hide in some aspects. That familiar feeling of pride starts to make its way to the surface. ] Soccer, huh? How'd that turn out for you?

[insert sixth grader giggle here. more seriously:]
your world doesn't have any "magic," right? are you combat trained...?
no subject
[ Oikawa grimaces at the thought, but he has to agree. ] Yeah, I don't think I'd want to, either...
I'm not, but one of the recruits was kind enough to offer some training, so I'm able to hold my own for a while, at least.
What about you? You said you didn't participate in the jailbreak, so you must be in the same boat as I am, huh?
no subject
nah, i just know how to pick my fights! the jailbreak was too sudden and too risky.
you made sure the person teaching you can't use magic, right...? you don't seem like the mage type.

[was not at all what he'd been expecting.]
[after a long, long pause:]
i've never played volleyball before... huh. it seems tough to be club captain.

sorry, you mentioned - strategic part of volleyball...? like coordinating the team?

It'd be a nice distraction with all of this running around looking for the sun, that's for sure. Too bad we don't have any of the equipment for it.

Do you play any sports?
